The MB/GPW and CJ2A startingmotor

Grease and dirt on the Bendix drive prevents it from beeing thrown into the fly wheel ring gear.
Sometimes the Bendix spring is broken and the cog wheel damaged. If so the fly wheel ring gear can be very damaged too. This drive gear had to be discarded. It was too damaged.
The complete Bendix gear is still possible to buy as a complete unit.

The starting motor for the MB/GPW and CJ2A jeeps are hard to find items today. However it is possible to restore them if they arenīt too damaged.
The armature must be machined in a lathe and new brushes must be installed.

The CJ3A starting motor is of a different type. Instead of beeing thrown into flywheel ring gear (the MB/GPW and CJ2A) it is mecanically forced into the gear. This is good for the starting motor and the ring gear.
It is possible to use a CJ3A starting motor in a CJ2A but then you must change both the fly wheel ring gear and the bell house.
