Special tools for Jeep Axles

When you work with front and rear axles from the old flatfenders the special tools once made for them are of course very good to have. Today they are almost impossible to find, so if you have need for them you will have to make them yourself.
On the upper two pictures you can see the pinion installing tool for the front and rear axles on the CJ-jeeps. This is an original tool I have found in  Denmark around fifteen years ago.

Two very handy tools for jeepaxles.
With the tool to the left you force the gear housing to open. It makes it easier to lift out the differential gear. This tool was originally made for old Volvo cars. (the Amazon and Volvo 140) The rear axle on these cars is almost of the same type as the front axle on the Jeep. The tool to the right is for installing the inner oil seals in the front and rear axles. This tool I have copied from an old Jeep manual.

To the left is another very handy tool copied from an old Mecanics Manual. It is used for installing king pin bearings in the front axle. Some of the bearing pullers once used at old Volvo cars are usable at jeep differintial gears.
A small hydraulik press helps you to install the new bearings.

To the left an old Volvo bearing-puller.

To the right checking differential gear backlash.

When I restore an old steering gear and the new bushings are installed I use an adjustable reamer to get the lever shaft to fit perfect in the housing.
